Mentorship for Emerging Companies

EO Southeast Virginia is launching a Mentorship for Emerging Companies (MEC) program. This program is designed to provide insight and experiencing sharing with the next wave of ‘second stage’ entrepreneurial companies with the knowledge to reach and exceed the 1 million revenue mark.

The program will be delivered through several methods including:

Business-to-Business Mentoring Series: Pre-recorded audio and video interviews partnering with Future of Hampton Roads to host the segments within the Economic Competitiveness focus area of their website (http://fhrinc.org/study-topics/economic-competitiveness .)

Entrepreneurs Reflection Series/Panels: Planned to be series of two hour live discussion panels with participating EO SEVA members and qualified businesses as the audience

EO Mentorship: EO Members will mentor qualified Entrepreneurs in a 1:1 fashion. EO Mentorship fosters relationships aimed at high-level leadership and personal development within a structured timeframe. Throughout the mentorship, mentees work toward goals and create personal accountability, while mentors support them with insight, perspective & experience share.

Why is the Chapter launching this program?
Based on feedback from many of our members and leaders in the community, Hampton Roads has a gap in assistance for small businesses beyond the initial start-up stage (less than 250k in revenue) and below the ‘second stage’ of growth (i.e. the EO minimum of 1 million in revenue). The timing of launching the program is great as local leadership organizations such as the Future of Hampton Roads (FHR) & CIVIC Leadership have been looking for a solid group of Entrepreneurs that are willing to assist the next wave of entrepreneurial growth.

How does the “EO Mentorship” component of the program work?
Volunteer EO Members are trained and paired with a qualified Entrepreneur as a mentor/mentee pair. EO Mentorships last 10-12 months; during this time mentee/mentor pairs meet face to face for 1-3 hours per month. Mentees also attend quarterly meetings with presentations by EO Strategic Alliance Partners.

Chapter Mentorship Chairs facilitate the application and matching process and kick-off pairs in a training session. From there, mentees drive the relationship forward and the Chair checks in periodically to ensure healthy progress. After a year, the ‘formal’ relationship ends with a celebration of achievements.
