Entrepreneurs' Organization-Houston challenges veterans to become entrepreneurs with first-ever “Veterans Business Battle”


HOUSTON, Nov 10, 2014 -- In an effort to support America's veterans transitioning from the battlefield to the boardroom, the Houston Chapter of Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), along with Rice University's Veterans in Business Association (VIBA), are proud to announce the EO-Houston Veterans Business Battle.

This business plan competition is dedicated to creating and growing veteran-founded businesses. Former service members will have an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of successful entrepreneurs and qualified investors for a chance at significant seed capital. The competition is open to start-ups and existing businesses ready to grow.

Finalists will be invited to the EO-Houston Veterans Business Battle on February 28 at Rice University, where they will present their business idea to investors who are capable and eager to support veterans and entrepreneurship in all shapes and sizes.

This event will give veterans practical insights into starting and growing a businesses and give them access to Entrepreneurs' Organization-Houston's diverse and valuable pool of resources. To be considered for the competition, all applicant companies must be founded and operated by honorably discharged military veterans. Contestants must reside in the United States.

"As business owners, many of us at Entrepreneurs' Organization have benefited from the unparalleled work ethic veterans bring to a company," said Entrepreneurs' Organization-Houston President Mark Martin. "We believe veterans' leadership experience and discipline will help them succeed as entrepreneurs. We want to give back to our veterans by teaching, mentoring and inspiring them at this event."

All types of businesses are encouraged. Prizes and awards will be given for the most viable and promising business, but the objective of this competition is to launch as many businesses as possible.

To compete, individuals or teams must submit a business plan through the competition's website, www.vetbizbattle.com, by January 15, along with documentation verifying their service. Finalists will be notified by Feb. 1 of their invitation to participate in the Feb. 28 event at Rice University.
