EO Turkey Learning Session with Mert Yildiz
" Turkey’s
development story" with Mert Yıldız
On 12th of
October, EO Turkey members attended a very interesting seminar at House Hotel
Bosporus Ortaköy, led by Mert Yıldız. Yıldız worked for 16 years in world’s
leading finance centers such as New York, London, Dubai and Moscow, and turned
back to Turkey in 2016. He is now a consultant for banks, investment funds and
entrepreneurs in the fields of politics and strategy. He also works with local
governments for empowering and developing local economies.
In the seminar, Yıldız
started with this question: Is it possible to integrate Turkey to global value
chain by developing social capital, technology and localization? He emphasized
that there are two main inputs for an economy to develop, and they are trust
and hope. He mentioned that, in a society where nobody trusts each other and
has hope for the future, it is useless to wait for politicians to make the
change. Therefore, we should start to build hope by trusting each other. He
proposed that the biggest tool to maintain such an environment is “localization”.
