Entrepreneurs Pacing Growth, Adding Jobs in 2012

St. Louis Leading the Way In Small Business Growth

March 19, 2012 - (St. Louis, MO) – The latest Global Entrepreneur Indicator study shows St. Louis small businesses are growing, adding jobs and increasing revenue.

Results from the survey of more than 1,500 entrepreneurs indicate that nearly 70 percent of St. Louis-area entrepreneurs expect to hire additional full-time employees over the next six months, and 80 percent expect their revenue to increase. These numbers outpace the growth seen in the past six months, when 61 percent of St. Louis entrepreneurs added full-time employees and the 73 percent saw a jump in revenue.

“The results from the survey confirm that St. Louis entrepreneurs are thriving,” said Dan Curran, President of Entrepreneurs’ Organization St. Louis. “Small business owners are one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy, and nowhere is this more apparent than right here in St. Louis. We expect local small businesses to continue growing, and by doing so, move our local and regional economy in a positive direction.”

The resources available to St. Louis entrepreneurs have contributed to their success and the success of the small business community.  Readily accessible funding, mentorships and strong support systems have helped foster present and future growth.

“St. Louis has great companies, innovative technology and distinguished universities to support our local entrepreneurs,” said Curran. “Local businesses are adding jobs, and continue to grow. It’s no longer up to one big company to secure the success of our region, it’s small businesses across a variety of industries working together.”

The Global Entrepreneur Indicator survey included St. Louis-area companies with at least $1 million in annual revenue and sizable impacts on the local economy. Overall, the average respondent grosses $18.4 million in revenue. To learn more about the Global Entrepreneur Indicator, visit www.entrepreneurindicator.com.
