OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 15, 2011) – On November 17, eighteen members of the Entrepreneur’s Organization of Oklahoma will be taking over Roy Clark Elementary School in Tulsa for the day to teach the students about business, finance and economics as a part of the “EO Oklahoma Gives Back” event.
Volunteering as part of Junior Achievement’s Elementary School program, the “EO Oklahoma Gives Back” event is scheduled to coincide with the annual “EO24” event, during which 120 EO chapters in 42 countries will be taking part in entrepreneurial education events.
The Oklahoma EO chapter, with members employing more than 565 people and representing more than $135 million in revenues, will be providing a cumulative 108 hours of instruction to 650 students at Roy Clark Elementary, teaching all classes for the day as well as eating lunch with the students.
“I believe that the entrepreneurial seed is planted in kids at a very young age.” said Roy Georgia, President of EO Oklahoma. “I can remember growing up and being inspired by business owners that would come and talk at our school about what they did and how they became successful,” said Georgia.
“It is an honor to be able to take a day off from the hectic world and spend it focused on teaching kids entrepreneurial concepts. What better way to make sure we are providing for the future of our country?” said Georgia.
Roy Clark Elementary is a member of the Tulsa Area Community School’s Initiative (TACSI). In 2008, Clark received an Academic Excellence award from the state as “most improved” in Annual Yearly Progress, despite factors which, according to the school’s award profile, often “indicate decline in academic achievement.”
