Concealed Handgun Event Fires Up Members

Do you allow your employees to carry handguns into the office?

Do you carry one yourself?

On Tuesday, June 7th, Doug Friesen, an attorney and frequent lecturer on concealed carry and use of force issues for individuals and law enforcement agencies, briefed EO Oklahoma members on Oklahoma's concealed carry laws and implications for employers.

The event was held via video conference at both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices of EO Oklahoma sponsor, i2E.  Thanks to their facilities we were able to have one learning event that included both cities.

Doug addressed policy and liability issues with respect to company policies on allowing customers and employees to bring concealed weapons into your facilities and also on allowing employees to carry a concealed weapon while riding in a company vehicle or while conducing company business.

A retired Norman police officer and current concealed carry instructor at H&H Gun Range, Dean, also briefed the group on the requirements for obtaining a concealed carry permit in Oklahoma and on best practices for carrying a weapon if you chose to obtain a permit.

Dean and Doug also discussed the types and language used in businesses concealed carry gun policies

Doug distributed a document about the implications and process of allowing your employees to carry firearms in the course of their employment.  The Chapter is happy to provide you with a copy of this document, if you missed the event or need an extra copy.

What our members are saying about the event:

"As a concealed carry permit holder, I thought the event was very informative.  I took away a better perspective on the liabilities a business owner faces when he/she does not have a written policy outlining your company policy and how it relates to employees carrying concealed handguns.  The presenters were very knowledgeable and their presentations were thought out and well delivered."
