Dr. Charlie Miller, Chris Valasek and Maj. Gen. Brett
Williams to Speak at EDGE2017
Former director of
operations for U.S. Cyber Command and renowned “white hat” hackers known for
the remote compromise of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee to be keynote speakers at national
cybersecurity conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, Oct. 17-18
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. March 30, 2017 – EDGE2017, a national
cybersecurity conference aimed at addressing complex business security problems
with real-world solutions, announced today that Dr. Charlie Miller, renowned
“white hat” hacker and distinguished engineer in the autonomous transportation
security division at Didi Chuxing, Chris Valasek, renowned “white hat” hacker
and senior security leader at Uber’s Advanced Technologies, as well as Maj.
Gen. Brett T. Williams, former director of operations at U.S. Cyber Command and
current president of the Operations and Training Division of IronNet
Cybersecurity, Inc., will be the keynote speakers at the 2-day event taking
place in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Oct. 17-18 at the Knoxville Convention
Center.
“We had such a
great turnout at EDGE2016, and EDGE2017 is set to be bigger and better,” said
John McNeely, president and CEO of Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, the
company that’s presenting EDGE2017. “The experience and notoriety that Dr.
Miller, Mr. Valasek and Maj. Gen. Williams have gained in their time in
cybersecurity is notable. The information they provide will be of great value
for attendees regardless of whether you’re a seasoned cybersecurity veteran or
a CEO looking to ensure your company’s data—and future—is secure.”
Recognized as two
of the most technically proficient hackers on Earth by ForeignPolicy.com, Dr. Charlie Miller and
Chris Valasek are best known for the remote compromise of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee,
whereby they obtained physical control of the vehicle, exposing serious
security flaws; the results led Fiat Chrysler to recall 1.4 million vehicles.
With 33 years of
leadership in the Air Force, Maj. Gen. Williams’ final active duty assignment
was to lead a team of more than 400 people responsible for the global
operations and defense of Department of Defense networks. Since retiring in
2014, he has gone on to provide cyber-risk “deep dives” to Fortune 500 boards
around the world.
“Going into our
second year of the EDGE Security Conference, it was important to line up
keynote speakers who align with the theme of EDGE2017: Shift Forward,” said
Raymond Kahre, EDGE2017 event director and vice president of Sword & Shield
Federal. “Dr. Miller and Mr. Valasek will help all our attendees walk away with
a better understanding of the security and privacy implications and what the
future holds for connected security—The Security of Things.
“Maj. Gen.
Williams is highly experienced and has a unique ability to translate the
technical jargon of cybersecurity into easily digestible information for
business owners and executives. He will help anyone who attends, regardless of
cybersecurity knowledge, walk away with a higher level of understanding of
cybersecurity and how imperative it is to the future of their business.”
