Local Entrepreneurs Show More Optimism in Local and Global Economy than Peers

More than 4,500 entrepreneurs in 47 countries report optimism in the global economy, project an increase in full-time hires

Des Moines, IA (17 October 2016) – Optimism for the global economy, an improved reliance on full-time employees and an increase in projected net revenue are three leading benchmarks in the September 2016 edition of the Global Entrepreneur Indicator (GEI), a semi-annual survey conducted by the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO).

According to the local Iowa GEI report, while Iowa entrepreneurs saw a smaller percentage increase in the number of full-time employees added in the last six months, they indicated a larger percentage increase in both business revenue and business profit. Iowa’s findings were higher than the global indicators indicating that the Iowa economy is good for entrepreneurial businesses.

Despite uncertainty in the global economy, 81.6% of respondents reported a willingness to start a business in their current economic environment, which was an increase over the March 2016 survey results, where 79% of entrepreneurs polled indicated optimism.

Entrepreneurial Organization (EO) Iowa Chapter, a group of entrepreneurs working together to grow their businesses and improve business in Iowa. Todd McDonald, EO Iowa’s President, said “Iowa - and the Midwest in general - has always been known for conservative projections, but there is a lot of discussion in regard to the entrepreneurial economic climate. There are a number of factors impacting the next six months in Iowa including the election, commodity prices and a potential interest rate increase. Iowa entrepreneurs are smart enough to be strategic in their approach to the future.”
