Rosemary Tan, an EO Malaysia member since 1996, is the creative director of Palam Mesra Sdn. Bhd., a niche residential property development company she founded with her husband. In 2008, the company made Malaysia’s
Edge Business Weekly’s “Top 30 Property Developers” list for creativity and innovation. Subsequently in 2009, her project, MesraTerrace in Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, was featured at the World Sustainable Building Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
Rosemary graduated with a BBA in management from Pace University, located in New York, USA. She also holds an associate applied science degree in interior design from the Parson’s School of Design in New York. Upon her return from the United States in 1990, Rosemary was involved in a gift-trading company, called Crimson Rosella. The company supplied gift-wrapping products and gift items to most of the major departments in the country, and held the licensing program for WWF Malaysia for two years.
Rosemary has served in an EO leadership position for more than a decade. She was the Chapter President of EO Malaysia from 2001-2002, held various roles for the EO ASAP region and is a certified EO Forum Moderator and Trainer. In 2003, she was awarded the “EO Volunteer of the Year Award” for her efforts and dedication in helping the organization, and in July 2010, she was awarded the “Most Passionate EO Member” by her local chapter for her long-term dedication and contributions to EO Malaysia.
Rosemary’s community involvement includes volunteering on the board of trustees for the Worldwide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF Malaysia), and serving as a distinguished lieutenant governor for Kiwanis Malaysia and as a past president for Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur, a worldwide service organization dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Rosemary was awarded the Governor’s Medal for her outstanding service to the district of Kiwanis Malaysia in 2001. And in 2004, she received an Honorable Mention by the EO Kauffman Community Award, which recognizes philanthropic EO members, in honor of her community work with the Kiwanis Down Syndrome National Centre in Malaysia.
Rosemary has been married for more than 24 years to her husband, Stephen Chia, an entrepreneur in the IT and wireless broadband industry in Malaysia and Cambodia. Prior to serving as EO Global Chairman, Rosemary served as an EO Global Board Director, where she raised awareness of EO’s emerging programs, specifically the Global Student Entrepreneur Award (GSEA) competitions. In addition to her duties, Rosemary volunteers her time as a facilitator for EO globally.
