Director, External Engagement (Home Office set-up)

The Director of External Engagement will provide support to the External Engagement Committee, VP, External Engagement and SVP of Strategic Communications and provide ongoing support in building and maintaining non-revenue relationships with external stakeholders. They will help in identifying, planning and executing EO’s engagement with and presence at external conferences and will identify and execute other opportunities to engage the external community through programs including the Global Citizen of the Year award.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

External Engagement

  • ·     Responsible for researching, reporting, presenting, negotiating and executing external relationships with the guidance of the VP, External Engagement and the External Engagement Committee (EEC).
  • ·     Plan and coordinate any EEC meetings including venue, invites, and materials. Coordinate all committee activity including calls, meetings, and goals.
  • ·     Collect and format data for monthly global board reports as needed.
  • ·     Create, write, edit and manage white papers and memorandums of understanding associated with proposed or existing relationships.
  • ·     Act as relationship manager with partner organizations and evaluate performance on a regular basis.
  • ·     Answer telephone and e-mail inquiries from members and staff regarding external relationships.
  • ·     Work with Communications & Content team to promote external relationships to members and externally to target audiences.
  • ·     Coordinate with other departments to ensure high quality relationships. Elevate issues where appropriate.
  • ·     Maintain contact and document databases. Actively document processes.
  • ·     Other duties and assignments as necessary.

External Conference Duties

  • ·     Responsible for researching, reporting, presenting, negotiating and executing relationships with external conferences with the guidance of the VP of External engagement and the External Engagement Committee.
  • ·     Create, write, edit and manage white papers and memorandums of understanding associated with external conferences.
  • ·     Represent EO onsite at conferences. Coordinate and execute learning sessions, host panel discussions, speak publicly about EO, its programs and relationships.
  • ·     Other duties and assignments as necessary.

Employee Management

  • ·     Manage one full time employee in the Alexandria, VA office. Coordinate employee's schedule and workload with other managers who also oversee projects this employee is working on. Set goals for the employee and review his/her performance each year.
  • ·     Other duties and assignments as necessary.

Globalization Initiatives

  • ·      Oversee the Global Citizen of the Year award. Manage the application and scoring process along with any associated member travel.
  • ·      Actively identify other opportunities for EO to engage with the external entrepreneurial community.
  • ·     Maintain awareness of all EO chapter locations, current and pending.

Required:

  • > Bachelors' degree, preferably in communication or business field
  • > Experience managing accounts, chapters or relationships for an organization/company
  • > Experience/awareness of NGOs with entrepreneurship-based missions
  • > Experience working with executives and negotiating agreements
  • > Experience working with governments
  • > Excellent customer service skill
  • > Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred:

  • > Experience working with member/volunteer leaders
  • > Experience with stakeholder mapping and management
  • > Public speaking experience
  • > Ability to speak multiple languages

Language Skills:  Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing members, staff, managers, clients, and the public.  Ability to understand oral instructions and to ask for clarification when necessary.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers and calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, decimals, percentages, proportions and ratios to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral form.

Additional hours may be required during periods of heavy workload.  Flexibility is required in the daily work schedule to accommodate tasks.
