The Coolest EO Learning Events of the Year! 
 
 

 

The EO Learning Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the area of chapter learning. There were five categories of awards for FY2006/2007:

  • Best Overall Learning Calendar (Two awards: chapters with less than 60 members and chapters with more than 60 members)
  • Best Business Development Event
  • Best Collaboration Event
  • Best Personal Development Event

Award winners were recognized at the EO Berlin University on 10 August 2007. The top EO learning events from the past year were (drum roll please…):

Best Overall Learning Calendar (Less Than 60 Members)
Steve Showalter – EO Fairfield/Westchester

Learning Chair Steve Showalter planned nine learning events with top-name CEOs and other speakers. The venues received an average rating of 9.42, and the speakers averaged a rating of  9.11. Steve even secured the CEO of Virgin Atlantic, Steve Ridgeway, along with sponsorships from Virgin Atlantic for five other chapters.BLC

Best Overall Learning Calendar (More Than 60 Members)
Matt Weiss – EO New York

Learning Chair Matt Weiss planned 17 events with creative venues and speakers. The average venue rating was 8.9, and the average speaker rating was 9.02. Matt’s innovative touches to the learning calendar really made the difference.

Best Business Development Event
Sex in the Office: How to Get Away with Murder
Ajay Mirpuri – EO London

Held at an extremely exclusive London nightclub called China White, a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company gave tips on easy-to-apply practices that fit businesses of any size. He discussed his "No Fear" policy, which inspired EO members to approach business decisions with the same attitude. Both the venue and the speaker were rated a perfect 10.

Best Collaboration Event
Business Horror Stories: Aftermath of Disaster
Matt Weiss – EO New York

EO New York hosted EO New Orleans for a three-day stint that included tours and after-hours events. At the main event, both chapters’ members came together to recount stories of horror and triumph following the disasters of 9/11 and of Hurricane Katrina. Then they had an exclusive look at a theatrically-based Border Patrolhaunted house before it opened for Halloween.

Border Patrol: A Day in the Life
Brad Oberwager – EO San Francisco

EO San Francisco took C130 transport planes from San Francisco to the Mexican border along with the state senator and a four-star general. Then they took two helicopters along the border and a ground tour in military vehicles. The total cost came to US$85,000, and it was paid for by the sponsor. The event received an overall rating of 10.
