EO Member April Cox Awarded 40 Under 40

EO Member April Cox is recognized by the Greater Knoxville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award for the professional and philanthropic imprint she’s leaving on her community.

Knoxville, Tennessee, USA (January 2010) – “When you drop out, you’re going against what everyone else is doing to be successful” were the last words April Cox heard as she walked out of her college registrar’s office. As with many other entrepreneurs, April was already paving her own road to success, and college was merely a detour.  

On 16 January, 2010, April Cox was presented the Greater Knoxville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award. Every year the Knoxville Business Journal deems 40 of the community’s business leaders rising stars. All under the age of 40, they are providing the most influential positive impact on the Knoxville Area. These individuals are recognized for their efforts both professionally and philanthropic, and hope to inspire the community with their stories. This year, April joins them with her own story.

College was where April first merged her creativity with her technological background, unleashing an entrepreneurial future that school couldn’t compete with. She began with a small web design company, later merging with another small business owner to offer hosting and development services. It didn’t take long to recognize that simple web pages wouldn’t sustain the needs of businesses growing alongside the technological advances in the marketplace. 

April parted ways with her business to offer consulting services on software development. Not long after she partnered with a few others to create Efficience, a custom software development company. Her instincts proved true, and despite the economic turmoil that has plagued most businesses, April’s business has grown steadily from inception. “April has driven our company to the next level with her ability to not only develop a deep relationship with our clients, but to fully learn and understand their needs on a technical level, allowing us to deliver the solutions they need to drive their business” said Greg D’Amico, April’s partner and the CEO of Efficience. In addition to their Knoxville, TN corporate office, Efficience maintains a 2nd office in India employing over 20 software developers.
 

Although April was an exception to the rule with regard to college, she is an avid supporter of education. April maintains a seat on the Web Advisory Committee at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, she speaks to classes at the University of Tennessee Business School on Entrepreneurialism, has served on the Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership Education Committee, and teaches art to underprivileged children in Pondicherry, India through the Kalki Welfare Society.
