19 June 2012 – Many businesses supply basic products or services. MOD Restoration LLC in New York City (www.modrestoration.com) and Con-Tech International Inc. in New Orleans, La. (www.con-techinternational.com), are cases in point. What did the entrepreneurs do to add pizzaz?

Con-Tech’s president, Robbie Evans, imports and distributes steel and steel parts primarily to 55-gallon steel drum manufacturers. MOD’s president, Hanny Lerner, upholsters and re-upholsters for restaurants, office buildings and interior design firms. She opened in her apartment in 2009 with no capital, doing repairs on-location, mostly b-to-c. Evans, in 1993, had $50,000. Neither received subsequent capital.
